Breakaway is excited to announce the addition of lacrosse to its program. We have teamed up with Mike Mawdsley to offer viable options to learn and grow as a lacrosse player. Mike is from Ontario, Canada and has recently moved to Minnesota. He brings to Minnesota multiple years of playing and coaching experience. And we look forward to seeing the growth of our lacrosse program with him.
Mike grew up in a small town just north of Toronto, Ontario where he began playing lacrosse and hockey at the age of 4. In Canada, when the ice is out of the hockey rink during the summer months, they play indoor lacrosse. This is where Mike grew up playing lacrosse and fell in love with the sport. Throughout his youth career he excelled and went on to making the U16 Team Ontario National team. He went on to win a Canadian National Championship as a part of this team. As his youth career came to an end, he was drafted 1rst overall to the Junior A barrie Lakeshores. With much success in the sport, he was approached by a local travel team called Edge lacrosse which travels across the U.S. playing teams in front of college coach.
He later received a scholarship to play Divison 1 lacrosse at Sacred Heart University. Mike was a four year starter for the team and ended his career 4th all-time in goals scored and 9th all-time in career points. After graduating, he was drafted to the National Lacrosse League, it was always his dream to play in the National Lacrosse League.
Mike coached for Fundamental Lacrosse and Unparalleled lacrosse located in Fairfield, CT during his college career. After College, Mike returned home with a passion for coaching and wanted to give back to the people who helped him receive a scholarship. He started coaching the Edge Lacrosse a Canadian based club program. He was the head coach of the 2016 team and 2024 team.
Mike moved to Minnesota when he married his wife Catie. They live in Chaska, with their two dogs Rocky and Charlie.
